FIRST FINAL DECIDED
News reached our office that Jimmy O'Connor and partner Jason Sharrock were victorious in this weekend's Winter Greensomes final.
A 3 & 2 mauling of Rob & Tim Darlison means our favourite Postman will make a short walk to collect the shiny cup from Mr Captain.
When we caught up with Jim on Wigton Lane he managed to tear himself away from Bruno, a chocolate labrador, for long enough to be able to tell us that his putting and Jason's short irons were the keys to success at the weekend.
Receiving only 3 shots, the pair made the most of each and won every hole at which the advantage applied.
Jim was soon distracted though as the amorous Bruno rolled over and begged.
Well played all.
WINTER GREENSOMES SEMI-FINAL WEEKEND!!!
HOLY WAR
Pew what a scorcher! The semi-final between Jim O'Connor / Jason Sharrock & Andrew Winfield / Paul Whitehouse lived up to every expectation and went all the way down the 18th before Jason's sublime chip sealed a 2 up victory.
The game had swung both ways with Andrew chipping in on the 6th only for Jason to return the compliment 2 holes later.
When we caught up with Jimmy outside the vegetarian sandwich shop on Street Lane he took time out from buckling his sandals to report that all the hard work had been his and he wondered if his partner could be relied upon in the big final. On the same parade of shops we spotted Paul Whitehouse heading into Bargain Booze for his supper.
FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT
In the second semi we saw brothers Rob & Tim Darlison re-enact last year's final with John Galley and Paul Savage.
We didn't need to catch up with Rob because he rang our news desk within minutes of completing a 3 & 2 win over last year's losing finalists John and Paul.
Rob stated that the win had been as comfortable as he'd expected and he was pleased that Tim's form was so impressive in this, his first outing of the year.
Describing his own form as "awesome", modest Rob looked back on 2 match play victories this weeked, each 3&2. He calculated that whilst his combo would concede 3 shots to Jim & Jason he was feeling super confident about the final.
Despite spending a week at a training camp in Benidorm, early-riser John was unable to find the fire power to help partner Paul overcome the Darlis and they retreated to the warm bosom of the clubhouse bar, to plot further campaigns.
Well played everyone.

Last year's final is re-enacted in the top semi-final where Sav and Galley will be looking for revenge. Sav's duffed chip at 18 last year cost his pair any chance of lifting the trophy. It's a Holy affair in the second semi as regular churchgoers Jim and Andrew go head to head.
