HOGARTH TROPHY STAYS IN ROUNDHAY HANDS

This year The Hogarth Trophy was played upon the greens of Gott's Park GC, the finest municipal course in west Leeds.

The annual event is played to commemorate the life of Bob MacLachlan our long serving Hon. Secretary who passed away just over 2 years ago.

The 2012 event was again very well attended, with teams representing all 4 members of the Leeds Federation of Golf Clubs, of which Bob was such a passionate participant and officer.

The winning score of 87 points by Jim O'Connor, Jason Sharrock, Peter Salter & Micky Hughes was achieved through skill, application, fortitude and good luck.

Well played everyone and thanks for taking part.

ROUNDHAY TRIP TO COBBLE HALL

Gary Smith organised a suberb day out at Cobble Hall recently, today he contacted our news desk to say thanks to everyone who played on the day and who helped to make the day such a success.

32 golfers enjoyed bacon sandwiches, lashings of tea and coffee before playing 18 holes of golf which was all washed down with a quite scrumptious 2 course meal. The day was rounded off with the prize presentations to Micky Hughes & Paddy O'Connor before heading back to Roundhay for a good drink.

He'll be arranging another trip so keep your eyes peeled for the notice; they're great value.

Thanks Gary!

LOCAL RULES / ETIQUETTE

'Call-on' or 'Call-up' holes.

At Roundhay GC we have 2 such holes; the 6th and 8th.

The theory behind the system is that players will keep moving along the course rather than spending time waiting to take shots.

Proceed as follows:

6th hole - When you reach the green; mark your ball, ring the bell to signal the following group to play and retire to a safe location. Resume play when tee shots behind have been played.

8th hole - Again, mark your ball, wave to the following group or ring the bell and move to the bank behind the green where you can watch the tee shots from the group behind. Once they have been played, you should then putt out and everyone will enjoy the rest of the round.

Mr Captain Takes The Prize

Posted by Micky mcshamrock on Friday, December 30, 2011

In an end of year one-on-one match at Temple Newsam, Mr Captain, Paddy O'Connor put his opponent Mick Hughes to the sword; winning by an emphatic 8 points and taking the £4 prize money back to his family.

Paddy was never behind and even a jaw-dropping holed second shot at the par 4 third hole by Hughes was not enough to rock Roundhay's Club Captain who managed a birdie on the same hole.

No blobs on his card was testament to Paddy's solid play, in conditions that really needed Danny's soup to e...

FINAL EXCURSION OF 2011

Posted by Micky mcshamrock on Friday, December 30, 2011

With the New Year just around the corner, the final golf trip of 2011 took place at our neighbouring course, Leeds Golf Club.

18 of Roundhay's finest gathered on a dirty, wet and windy morning and quickly saw off tea, coffee and bacon butties before tackling 18 holes in the testing conditions.

Bookies favourite Andrew Winfield appeared in confident mood, but, by the time his double bogey 6 had been recorded on the first hole his mood matched the December weather; cold and dark.

5 hours later and...

Roundhay Golfers Get Stuffed

Posted by Stephen Griffiths on Saturday, December 24, 2011
Last night's turkey presentation at the golf club was the latest triumph on Roundhay's busy social calendar.

The club was full again as golfers made the walk of glory to meet Granville and Mr Captain who both did a splendid job handing out bottles and turkeys from the groaning prize tables.

Mick Hannan's legs must be tired today because he danced down the red carpet on no fewer than eleven occasions, his prizes included numerous bottles, chocolates and a lovely pair of sausages.

Another multiple...

ROUNDHAY PRO SHOP INTRODUCES NEW DRIVER

Posted by Stephen Griffiths on Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Roundhay Pro Adrian Newboult is pleased to announce that you can now try out the newest driver in town - Danny McBride!

Danny passed his driving test yesterday, at the first attempt. Son of a local Driving Instructor, Danny's driving genes seem better suited to the tarmac than the fairways he tries to hit when he's got his big dog out.

We'll be seeing a lot less of Danny soon as he'll be spending less money on dinners and more on petrol.

Well done Danny, great drive!

Toot toot!
